Robert J. Sawyer is a Canadian science-fiction writer and author of Flash Forward, the novel on which the television series of the same name is based. He wrote the episode Course Correction and served as consultant on the series (and was credited as such on each episode) and also appeared in an uncredited role in the pilot, portraying a hospital visitor.

Biography[]

Sawyer was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on 29 April 1960, and now resides in Thornhill, Ontario, Canada. He has a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in Radio and Television Arts from Toronto's Ryerson University. He has been married since 1984 to poet Carolyn Clink.

Career[]

Sawyer is the author of 20 novels, including Hugo Award-winner Hominids, Nebula Award-winner The Terminal Experiment, and John W. Campbell Memorial Award-winner Mindscan, plus Starplex, Frameshift, Factoring Humanity, Calculating God, Humans, and Rollback, all of which were Hugo Award finalists.  Other awards: China's Galaxy Award for "Most Popular Foreign SF Writer;" three Japanese Seiun Awards for Best Foreign Novel (for End of an Era, Frameshift, and Illegal Alien); ten Canadian Aurora Awards; plus Analog's Analytical Laboratory Award, Science Fiction Chronicle's Readers Award, and the Crime Writers of Canada's Arthur Ellis Award, all for best short-story of the year.  His latest novel is Wake.
